It’s been six weeks since I left my corporate job and to be honest, I didn’t do much during this time. It felt like I was on holiday. Just being lazy after 20 years in the corporate world – I slept in each morning, binge-watched Netflix in the evening, was on vacation with my boyfriend, worked a little bit on my website, read a lot, … I fully enjoyed myself and life. And it was great. It felt amazing to let go and live for the day. Just doing whatever feels right at that moment. And this was exactly what I needed after 20 years in the corporate hamster wheel.
But honestly, in the beginning, being lazy was not as easy as it may sound.
When you are so used to the working environment, and it became your normal state to perform at this level, it’s not easy to let go without feeling guilty. You always think you “should do” something. Something productive. Perform.
I think it was vital for me to give myself this time off, to live without a given daily routine. I usually have a hard time to let go and do nothing so this was something I had to learn. Let’s call it the first step in my renewal process.
But it feels like now is the right time to get off the couch.
It feels safe and cozy there but if you want to make new experiences and turn your life inside out you have to get up – and out. It’s doubtful that you change your life there. You have to put yourself in new situations, do things differently, get out there and explore.
We cannot become what we want by remaining what we are.
My next blog post will be about how I get back on track and how I let go without letting myself go. So stay tuned!
What about you? Do you also feel guilty when you do nothing and let go?
